Security kits for all as threats 'increase'

The Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association has sent UKPd100,000 worth of "security toolkits" to all higher education colleges and universities in the UK in order to help academics counter hackers, computer bugs and online bullying. The pack contains advice for universities on how to bring their computer systems in line with legislation, as well as providing confidentiality agreement templates to be signed by college staff who have access to sensitive data.

Guide steers campuses through moral mazes

Academics in the UK have helped create the "Ethics Matters" booklet, the world's first ethics guide for universities. The guide, produced in a joint project between the Council for Industry and Higher Education and the Institute for Business Ethics, addresses a number of potential ethical problems and dilemmas that university administrators could face.

Crumbling campuses face [pounds sterling]5bn repair bill

Nearly one third of university buildings in England are in need of repair or unfit for use, according to a report commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills, the Department of Trade and Indutry and the funding councils. The report warns that universities need GBP 5 billion to update buildings and equipment.
